Armed Police on Streets of Lower Hutt

You may believe the hype that New Zealand is a safe place and has a low crime rate, but the reality is very different. Hardly a day goes by without a report of a murder, rape, beating, armed robbery or deployment of the police Armed Offenders squad. And it’s not all happening in Auckland either.

Therefore it comes as no surprise to hear that armed police are currently in action in the Wellington suburb of Naenae, Lower Hutt after a man was seen entering a property in Harrison Crescent with a gun. Police have searched the premises but were unable to find any weapons and the perp seems to have given them the slip. It is one of two  incidents in the area that armed police dealt with today:

Yesterday the Hutt Valley Tactical Crime Unit staff arrested Clinton Norling in Upper Hutt. Norling had been on the run since December and has multiple warrants to arrest for breaching the conditions of his electronic monitoring.

Police were previously at Harrison Crescent on 7 January after reports of armed people on the loose. Police raided a house on the street and found it empty, but they did retrieve a stolen car from the address thought to be connected to the incident.

We’ll bring you more as we get it…
