German tourist experiences Nelson’s crime problem

There’s been another tourist attack in New Zealand, this time in Nelson.

From an article in Stuff.co.nz we learn:

A German tourist was kicked, punched and robbed by two men in Nelson early today. The 29-year-old man told police he was approached by a man in Rutherford St about 3am. He was then attacked from behind by a second man.

The attackers kicked and punched him before taking his belongings and running off in the direction of the Montgomery car park. They took the tourist’s Nike sports bag, which contained his passport and wallet with cash in 100 and 50 euro notes, along with items of clothing…

The man’s name has not been released. It is unlikely to be made public until such time as he can be quoted as saying the attack didn’t spoil his enjoyment of New Zealand.

He has our deepest condolences, and we wish him a safe onward journey from a country with a penchant for bashing tourists.

  1. The tangatawhenua strike again.
Tourists should be warned of the dangers of the violent group that is the maori people the men especially but the women can be highly volatile and dangerous also.

  2. Maybe he will be given a choice between saying “the attack didn’t spoil his enjoyment of New Zealand.”
    or
    http://www.stuff.co.nz/nelson-mail/news/65783811/french-tourists-arrested-for-false-statement-about-motueka-robbery
“Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Johnston said once police had interviewed the pair and completed inquiries around the alleged scene, they established there had not been a robbery and the men subsequently admitted they had made the story up.”

I suspect among the reasons the violence against tourists is of the “non-lethal” (meaning you’re still alive, NOT without serious injury),
is because if a death happened that would make them have to take a closer, continuous look at violence against tourists
    AND
it might turn up that their budget doesn’t actually allow them to police properly
    AND
the “community spirit of looking out for others for free” might be exposed as … not existing at all.

    • I must correct myself,
I suspect among the reasons the violence against tourists is of the “non-lethal” (meaning you’re still alive, NOT without serious injury),
      should read
I suspect among the reasons the CURRENT (as in up to this year over a 1 year period) violence against tourists has MOSTLY been of the “non-lethal” (meaning you’re still alive, NOT without serious injury),
