Days after Mary Loader, a 65 year old grandmother, was left critically injured in a random bottling attack in Tauranga (see Tauranga grandmother in coma after bottle attack) a 16 year old youth has sustained serious leg injuries in a fight outside the town’s 10 pin bowling alley on Friday night.
The NZ Herald stated that in an altercation between two ‘groups’ (an often used euphemism for gangs) the youth was knocked to the ground and kicked before being run over by a vehicle, two cars then raced away from the scene. Two 20 year old men have been charged with assault and bailed. Read the report here.
The account written in the local paper was rather different, saying that the fight took place on 13th Avenue near Tauranga Boys College. In that version a 19 year old Pukehina man and a 20 year old from Mount Maunganui were arrested, police are still looking for other people who may have also been culpable for the assault. The injured boy’s name has not been released.
Reading between the lines here and given the age of the victim we are left wondering if he may be a pupil of the college, maybe an international student. Further details may be released.
