Police are hunting for a rapist and kidnapper who is on the run after breaching his parole conditions.

Police are looking for 48-year-old Nigel Robert Gately who went missing from a Christchurch address yesterday. Gately has convictions for rape, assault with intent to commit rape and abduction for sex.

Gately’s previous crimes had been described as described as “terrifying in the extreme” by a judge. He’d been serving a sentence of preventive detention since 2001 after he pleading guilty to charges against two victims in Dunedin and Wellington. The first of those was committed three months after he was released from an eight-year sentence for raping a Christchurch woman.

  1. The New Zealand ”Justice” System is ”A Failed System”, which clearly in many cases endorses Criminal behaviour whilst penalizing Victims & their families.Or put simply , the ” so called Justice System” , in many cases functions in a Corrupt & backward manner. This system is allowed to reap havoc with impunity in many cases, whilst the ignorant NZ populace are ”mislead” into believing they have a near perfect & ”Transparent” , non- dysfunctional System. This couldnt be further from the Truth.

  2. If he’s serving time under “preventive detention” how the hell did he go on the run from “a Christchurch address”? Do they get day release or something??

  3. Perhaps Gately is with the Governor General – the two men who raped our under age daughter in Auckland were later rewarded with Queens awards by the Governor General.

    • are you serious ? This is horrifying. What an shame your daughter had to go through something like that ! Why can’t they see an society that stimulates crime will eventually collapse .. More Poverty and corruption will trigger new zealand in an third world country one day. This country just doesn’t work. Perhaps for some multi billionaires but even James Cameron producer of the Hollywood buster Titanic has left after residing in New Zealand for four years…
