  1. Link, please? There are two likely candidates from the list below, and neither appear to be relevant:

A TV movie from 1980 with Sonny Bono and Elke Sommers?
    Storyline
Michael Stone is a rising company executive decides to chuck his career and marriage to fulfill a fantasy to be a member of the U.S. Olympic bobsled team to partake in the 1980 Winter Olympics at Lake Placid.
    or
    A TV movie from 1989?
    Storyline
Thomas Bell’s father was elected to the US congress but poor health forces him to step down so Tom decides to run for his father’s vacated post; which he wins. On his first day, he learns that an American who works overseas, is being held, and it seems that the US is not going to help. But Tom who’s very idealistic decides to look into it; it seems that the country that’s holding wants something that Tom can’t deliver without he help or approval of certain government officials but naturally they want something from Tom – to compromise some of his beliefs and convictions.

  2. I would suggest to everyone to watch the movie Top of the Hill. It is a great reflection of the systemic corruption, boganism, and downright inbreeding that is so prevalent in New Zealand.

    • Why is this movie recommended? Can you provide a link, please? There are two likely candidates from the links below, and neither appear to be relevant:

      • @Calvin: I am sorry about the type. The movie is Top of the Lake. I watched it on Netflix outside of Retardicon 6 where Netflix is available. Here is a link referencing the movie http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2103085/.

I do not want to ruin the plot, but the fictional account takes place in the Queenstown Lakes region. It is a great illustration of the general inbreeding, incompetence, and corruption of New Zealand society. It was cathartic to watch it.

        • Thanks. I had heard about this TV series before, but thought you were referring to a different movie altogether. We will probably rent it as soon as we can muster enough detachment to watch. [Thanks also to reader and Rose for the links.] For those who still live inside the movie like us, it can be difficult to watch a “rerun” of reality. Still, if it is as good as everyone says, maybe it will be like watching Breaking Bad.

      • No, everyone is focused on ISIS and Ebola right now. No one cares about New Zealand outside of New Zealand, except for expat Kiwis, and they are too cynical and busy to seem to want to bother about these revelations.
