A very shallow 4.1 magnitude earthquake shook the Mount Cook area just before noon today. The quake was felt as at *Fox Glacier, in Christchurch and as far north as Waikanae in the North Island.
*The 22 February that hit Christchurch last caused 30 million tonnes of ice to fall from the Tasman Glacier, 200 km west of Christchurch. It will be interesting to see if today’s more local quake will have any effect on glaciers in the region.
