There’s been an explosion at the Pike River coal mine, reports vary but it’s thought that 29 people may be trapped in the mine, in Atarau near Greymouth , New Zealand including foreign nationals.

Our thoughts are with the miners and their families.

Early Wednesday morning there was a shallow magnitude 3 quake located 80km north east of Greymouth but it is not known if this was linked to the explosion.
